Laser Resurfacing in South Africa
Most Laser treatment may be performed under local anaesthetic with conscious
sedation, or under local anaesthetic. Procedures can be performed in a day
clinic and patients return home the same day.
Laser resurfacing of the face is utilised in patients with deep wrinkles,
acne scarring or a sun-damaged skin. A combination of Erbium laser / CO2 laser
is used (Derma K laser) to precisely remove the top layers of the skin. The
result is a smoother, more youthful appearance of the skin.
There is a healing time of approximately 7 days. During the 7 days the patient
is required to cleanse the skin several times a day and apply a laser gel
to seal the raw skin until it has healed. The skin remains pink for approximately
six to eight weeks. Post-operative consulting on skin care will be provided.
Laser Resurfacing Hands and Neck
An Erbium laser can be used on the neck and the back of the hands for pigmentation
and sunspots.
Erbium laser resurfacing can be performed under local anaesthetic.
Laser Resurfacing Lower Eye lids
Laser resurfacing may be used to remove fat from the lower lids through
the conjunctiva without leaving any scars. It is possible to tighten loose
skin in the lower eyelid area with the laser. Patients are instructed in the
use of creams, general skin-care and sun protection post-operatively.
